Obama told ABC's "Good Morning America" in an interview aired today that he hoped the Rev. Terry Jones of Gainesville, Fla., would listen to the pleas of people who have asked him to call off the plan. The president called it a "stunt."So why hasn't more action been taken to stop it? Even though it's more like an on again, off again kind of thing with "he said! she said!" conflicts, I feel like everyone is watching the drama go down instead of stepping in between the feuding couple, aka the White House and the small town Florida church.
Of course I'm against it. I mean, how could you call yourself an American and not be? If anyone supported this I could only imagine it being that way because they live a sheltered life or want publicity themselves. My prediction? It won't actually happen. There will be so much press and coverage over something that's all talk and no action. Don't get me wrong, I hope it ends up that way. But I would rather have the press cover the memorials and remembrance services that are happening that day.
I completely agree with you. Most likely it is a publicity stunt. I like how you integrated the quote into your post. A couple questions:
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think would happen if the pastor followed through with burning the Quran? How would you feel, and what worldy issues would follow?
You make a good point about how the press should be covering the memorials and spending a day to remember the people that lost their lives. Instead, everybody is focused on the new drama. I feel like this is a waste of our time and energy because we do not actually know that this man is going to go through with this. We should be focusing on the tragedy that happened any paying our respects to the people that lost their lives.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex! I feel like it would only create more of a conflict betweent the American people and the rest of the world, because it reflects poorly on us. I also believe our soldiers would be at risk.
ReplyDeleteHey Ali! Thanks. That's the message I was trying to get across. Everyone's too focused on things that shouldn't matter.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with your point of view. I believe Rev. Terry Jones is threatenting to commit this stunt plainly for the publicity. Does he really not understand all of the negative impacts this will have on people? I also am apauled that no one part of the church is stepping in and stopping this act.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very interesting thought, that Reverend Jones did this for a publicity stunt. I agree with this because it is a stupid thing for someone to do and be prejedice. Jones is being prejudice towards the Muslims just because the people that flew the plane into the World Trade Centers were Muslim. I am against it also!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex...ander. That's how I feel. It concerns me that no one is taking action.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda! Thanks. Being prejudiced is never justifiable,(sp?), even with a history of conflicts.
